Sensor for non-contact level measurement in rough environments

The LVL-R-5 is a stationary, battery-powered sensor used for non-contact level measurement of fresh water, wastewater or grey water in sewer lines and water shafts. Measurements are taken using radar.

Thanks to its built-in battery and local wireless data transmission, no cabling is required at the installation site. Thanks to its compact design, the LVL-R-5 is also ideal for use in confined spaces.

Designed for continuous use in harsh environments

Thanks to its ATEX Zone 1 certification and IP68 protection rating, the LVL-R-5 is ideal for non-contact level measurement in challenging environments such as sewers, water treatment plants and stormwater overflow basins. The 10-second measurement interval enables virtually continuous monitoring of actual conditions. When used with the Jellox Analog or Jellox Node, this ‘live data’ can be reliably transmitted.

Thanks to its G 1½” mounting thread, the LVL-R-5 is compatible with a wide range of standard mounts. As no wiring is required, installation is significantly easier. The built-in spirit level makes aligning the sensor easier, thereby ensuring accurate measurements.

Thanks to its non-contact 60 GHz radar technology, the device is maintenance-free. With a measurement interval of 10 seconds, the battery lasts up to 10 years. The LVL-R-5 features a gas-tight, corrosion-resistant, metal-free housing.

Never miss an event in the sewer again!

It is crucial to choose the right measurement interval in order to reduce measurement errors. After all, you can only respond appropriately to an event if you detect it in the first place. During a heavy rainfall event, the water level can rise within minutes. The event can be over just as quickly. With a measurement interval of five minutes, the surge may not be recorded at all. Reducing the measurement interval to one minute significantly reduces the likelihood of missing an event.

Every measurement requires energy. A shorter measurement interval always results in increased energy consumption. This is a factor that needs to be weighed up with self-contained, battery-powered systems. The LVL-R-5 is designed to meet the highest standards of measurement accuracy and speed. It offers a measurement interval of 10 seconds (with a measuring range of up to 5 metres and an accuracy of ±2 millimetres) while delivering a battery life of up to 10 years.

Reliable data transmission using tried-and-tested, remote data loggers

The quality of mobile data transmission reception can be challenging in manholes or sewers. Wherever possible, it is therefore recommended that the data logger used for transmission is placed beneath the manhole cover (in the sand trap or grit chamber). However, the measurement point is usually located much deeper within the sewer.

In such situations, installing the data logger and the LVL-R-5 in separate locations can improve the reliability of data transmission. Thanks to the wireless connection between the two, installation is straightforward. The LVL-R-5 can be positioned up to 20 metres away from the data logger (depending on environmental conditions and structural constraints).

Maximum measuring precision

With a measuring range of up to 5 m, a resolution of 1 mm and an accuracy of ±2 mm, reliable level measurement is possible. The narrow 4° beam angle reduces the impact of reflections in narrow shafts and sewers, thereby contributing to high measurement accuracy.

This tried-and-tested remote data logger can be installed up to 20 metres away from the LVL-R-5. This enables the LVL-R-5 to be positioned much more precisely.

The built-in spirit level ensures that the LVL-R-5 is aligned precisely and vertically. This prevents measurement errors caused by the angle of inclination, which depend on height.

10 years battery life with live sensor data

The frequency of measurement (measurement interval) and transmission (transmission interval) significantly influence energy consumption. The LVL-R-5 only requires 0.6 μWh to measure and transmit a value to the data logger. In comparison, comparable industrial sensors require 125 μWh — more than two hundred times that amount.

The measurement interval of the LVL-R-5 can be adjusted. Taking a measurement every 10 seconds results in a battery life of 10 years.

Eliminate interference signals from a distance

Thanks to its interference suppression feature, the LVL-R-5 provides reliable measurement results. What makes it special? You can conveniently adjust the settings remotely via the server. This not only saves you the trip to the measurement point, but also the need to open the manhole cover.

The recorded echo curves can be viewed on the central platform. This allows interference signals to be filtered out quickly and easily.
