IoT platform for municipal utilities for remote meter reading
What's the solution about?
Salzburg AG is digitising the remote reading of water and district heating meters using energy-efficient long-range radio. The Microtronics IoT platform is used to read the meter data directly from the network server. Thanks to the integrated interface, the long-range radio network technology is successfully connected to the Microtronics systems and is available for future projects.
The long-range radio technology used is comparable to narrow-band radio technology for long-range transmission devices with long battery life and offers an alternative to traditional, mobile radio-based long-range transmission. It enables the transmission of small amounts of data over long distances with low power consumption.
Advantages
Automated remote reading of water or district heating meters can optimise operating costs, while providing visibility into infrastructure operations and simplifying billing. The solution also facilitates the creation, management and administration of new meter types.
Salzburg AG is a pioneer in the use of these technologies in Austria and currently operates one of the largest long-range radio applications with 16,000 metering points in the field. Thanks to the excellent cooperation, the solution was implemented on time, in good quality and without interrupting the ongoing billing cycle, despite the tight schedule.
