The rapidM2M M220 is already impressing with its energy efficiency in various industries and in a wide range of applications. Whenever ultra low power applications are required, the rapidM2M M220 is the perfect choice.
However, if you need a powerful module with high computing power and a lot of memory, you will quickly reach your limits with the rapidM2M M220.
This is why Microtronics has now developed the rapidM2M M230, a particularly powerful module that meets these requirements. With the rapidM2M family concept, you build on the familiar rapidM2M functionalities such as hardware and software abstraction, voltage conversion directly at the module, free selection of the uplink module, long-term script compatibility and the unchanged Mini PCI Express form factor.
The rapidM2M M230 opens up a wide range of new possibilities with a display and a camera interface as well as two CAN interfaces, BLE, WiFi and Ethernet. With 512 MB memory, 128 kb FRAM and 8 MB RAM, the rapidM2M M230 is three times as powerful as the rapidM2M M220.
Lots of memory and FRAM
With the 512 MB memory, you can update applications behind it. For example, you can temporarily store large firmware updates on the file system and thus realise stable firmware updates even with a poor connection.
Furthermore, it is possible to load image files that change at certain intervals (e.g. once a day) into the machine with the rapidM2M M230. With a vending machine, for example, you can use this method to show a 1+1 coffee free promotion for a defined period on the display.
In addition, the rapidM2M M230 is equipped with a 128 kB FRAM memory. With this non-volatile memory, you can save important information even in the event of a power failure.
Increased security for underlying systems
Linux systems are integrated in many applications. These are interesting because of their free availability, adaptability and performance. In combination with the rapidM2M M230, the Linux system receives additional security with a type of firewall. If you connect the Linux system directly to your network, it is necessary to protect it against various attacks. Use the rapidM2M M230 as an uplink or communication module and secure the Linux system behind it with the usual high rapidM2M security standards. The rapidM2M M230 only transmits the user data to your central server platform.
This procedure not only provides you with extra security, but also with additional convenient management functions. Updating Linux on a large number of devices that are already in operation can be very tedious. In the worst case, you may even have to do this manually on site for each unit. The managed platform allows you to download these updates centrally to all devices. As already mentioned, the large memory for caching the large files is an excellent help here.
So you can easily retrofit existing systems. If you have a LAN interface available, for example, the rapidM2M M230 is quickly integrated into your application with the rapidM2M PoC LAN.
Real-time display & input
The rapidM2M M230 is suitable for applications where you need a quick on-site display. For example, it is conceivable that you display the current temperature in a machine or the operating speed.
With a touch display, you can also make entries in real time directly on site. This allows you to implement applications in which you can activate or deactivate a maintenance mode on site with one click.
The display interface supports a resolution up to XGA (1024×768). This enables the control of pixels and the display of graphics. The rapidM2M M230 is not suitable for playing videos, as no video interpreter is integrated as standard.
Recording at high speed
For applications with a high recording rate, infrequent transmissions (approx. once a day) and additional transmissions only in defined alarm cases, the rapidM2M M230 is the ideal module. The high computing power enables the high recording speed. The resulting amount of data can easily be cached on the large memory. In case of an alarm, the amount of data can be transmitted and analyses with a large amount of data can be realised.
CAN applications
In many machines and in the automotive sector, you quickly reach your limits with a CAN interface. Often the machines already require a CAN interface for direct communication with the machine and another for interaction with the operator’s system. With two CAN interfaces as standard, the rapidM2M M230 is perfectly equipped for such requirements.
Camera
The camera interface saves development effort. A separate camera evaluation is not required, as the rapidM2M M230 already provides this. This saves you time and costs during development.
Wherever you want to store images locally directly on the module and show them on a display, the rapidM2M M230 is an excellent choice. Through the integration of a camera and a display interface, the recording and display functions almost without delay.
But you can also record images, save them locally and send them to the central server with the rapidM2M M230 without any additional development effort. All simple camera applications can be integrated directly on the module.
