Nevertheless, one often does not really know what is behind it. We shed some light on the darkness and explain the most important terms around the topic of &#8220;intrinsic safety&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-wo-darf-ich-installieren\"><strong>Where am I allowed to install?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The whole topic around ATEX and corresponding guidelines is primarily aimed at all EU member states. To this end, the European Union has defined the ATEX Operating Directive and the ATEX Product Directive in the ATEX Directive.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ATEX_directive\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ATEX Product Directive 2014\/34\/EU<\/a><\/strong> contains the rules for placing devices and products on the market in potentially explosive atmospheres. It concerns electrical as well as non-electrical devices, machines and components.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Richtlinie_1999\/92\/EG_(ATEX-Betriebsrichtlinie)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ATEX Operational Directive 1999\/92\/EC<\/a><\/strong> defines the minimum requirements for explosion protection and the safety of workers who may be endangered by explosive atmospheres. This means that an<a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Explosionsschutzdokument\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explosion protection document<\/a> must be drawn up as part of the risk assessment. This is therefore always lower than the ignition temperature\/flash point of the respective gas\/liquid.<br\/><br\/>The <strong>explosion group<\/strong>, on the other hand, defines the classification according to the minimum ignition energy (e.g. by a spark) for these gases in three groups (IIA \/ IIB \/ IIC).<\/p>\n\n<table><tbody><tr><td><b>Explosion group<\/b><\/td><td colspan=\"6\"><b>Temperature classes<\/b><\/td><\/tr><tr><td><\/td><td>T6 (up to 85\u00b0C)<\/td><td>T5 (up to 100\u00b0C)<\/td><td>T4 (up to 135\u00b0C)<\/td><td>T3 (up to 200\u00b0C)<\/td><td>T2 (up to 300\u00b0C)<\/td><td>T1 (up to 450\u00b0C)<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>I\/A (300<em>\u00b5<\/em>Ws)<br\/><br\/><\/td><td><\/td><td><\/td><td><\/td><td>Petrol<br\/>Diesel<br\/>Heating oil &#8230;<\/td><td>Ethyl alcohol &#8230;<\/td><td>Acetone<br\/>Ammonia<br\/>Propane &#8230;<\/td><\/tr><tr><td> I\/B (150<em>\u00b5<\/em>Ws) <\/td><td><\/td><td><\/td><td><\/td><td>Hydrogen sulphide<\/td><td>Ethylene<\/td><td> Town gas<\/td><\/tr><tr><td> I\/C (50<em>\u00b5<\/em>Ws) <\/td><td>Carbon disulphide<\/td><td><\/td><td><\/td><td><\/td><td>Acetylene<\/td><td>Hydrogene<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"nun-zu-einem-beispiel\">Now an example<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the above table, in which the best-known gases are entered, the following minimum requirement can be defined for the gas hydrogen sulphide in the special case of the myDatasens H2S application with the BLE Gateway: -&gt; Explosion group IIB and temperature class T3<br\/><br\/>Furthermore, it can be stated that the hazardousness of the gases<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>increases from explosion group IIA to IIC or<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>for the temperature classes from T1 to T6.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The demands on the equipment increase accordingly.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The third important parameter is the <strong>ignition protection type<\/strong>of the device.<br\/>In our case, the ignition protection according to the rules of intrinsic safety &#8220;ib&#8221; with the EPL Gb.<br\/>(= application in ATEX zone 1).<br\/>The basic principle of intrinsic safety is based on limiting the amount of energy in a circuit to a non-flammable level. Sparks or thermal effects can therefore no longer be sources of ignition.<br\/><br\/><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"wie-darf-ich-installieren\">How may I install?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most important thing when installing equipment with the ignition protection type &#8220;intrinsic safety&#8221; is the proof of intrinsic safety.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following table\/checklist must be used to provide evidence:<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-7387b849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:100%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td colspan=\"6\"><strong>Electrical parameters (according to EC type-examination certificate)<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td colspan=\"2\"><strong>Associated equipment<\/strong><\/td><td colspan=\"2\"><strong>cables and lines<\/strong><\/td><td colspan=\"2\"><strong>Intrinsically safe equipment<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>max.
